“Proud Americans Memorial Day Celebration”
|
The Proud Americans Memorial Day Celebration held at the Royal Palm
Saturday night was a joint military services “job well done” success.
Contributing to that success and representing the branch of the service
in which they served were US Army, Ralph Sangiovanni; US Navy, Gary
Tapken; US Marines, Richard Borys; US Coast Guard, Tom Laskey; US Air
Force, Jim Merrill and the MIAs, Peter Partilo (US Army).
Cocktail hour was a great time to visit the “memory table” to share a
piece of our history and reminisce about a time when we were young.
All of the GIs just loved our Donut Dollies, Kathy Tapken and Melodie
Simonsen (Friedman).
Richard Borys presented a magnificent and very heart moving Poem “I Am
The Flag” which touched all of us.
Ron Friedman was a terrific commentator both as Uncle Sam and as he
represented the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles”.
Following a salute to each of the five branches of the service, a
special salute by all services was given to the MIAs least they not be
forgotten.
The program was ended with the video “Here’s to the Heroes” which
brought tears to many eyes.
The winner of “Reflections” raffle was Al Servati (US Army).
Also a round of special thanks to the “Girls Back Home”, Karen and Bob
Thomas our Greeters, and Chester Blackford our photographer.
