“The Oscars”

Sunny skies were with us on Friday morning after a week of deluge rains. Everyone arrived safely and all were greeted with “Mud Slides” provided by the Stouts.

Friday evening all of the Oscar nominees gathered at the Pelican Isle Yacht Club lounge for the Oscar preview party.  “Who is your movie star?” guessing game got everyone mingling and reminiscing about their favorite old movie stars.

Pam Simon got serious with a movie trivia questionnaire, which even the most avid movie buffs would be challenged. 1^st place winners were Mary Lou and Dick Mullins, following with a close 2^nd was Lindsey and Rick Scheinert.

Dinner followed at Doc’s Beach House, ending with some of the group walking out on the beach searching for the full moon. Where did it go?

Saturday morning, anxious nominees gathered at Simon’s and Stout’s boat for Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Sweet Rolls, Fruit and Bagels. The balance of the morning and afternoon were enjoyed by the nominees exploring the area or basking by the pool.

At 6:45 PM Royal Palmers magically turned into “Movie Stars”. Crowds gathered as the “Master of Ceremony”, Sean Connery (aka Dr. Jones Sr. better known to all as Rick Simon) announced the stars   as they elegantly walked the “Red Carpet”. The paparazzo’s flash bulbs exploded as the famous couples walked between the gold Oscar statues flanking their entrance.

Honored guest were ushered to their seats at the “Pelican Isle Kodak Theater”. The dinner selection was delightful with distinguished guest being served their choice of veal or grouper oscar, followed by an enticing trio of desserts.

Finally, the moments that all movie goers and nominees had waited for was drawing near. Master of Ceremony Rick Simon (Sean Connery) and Jan Stout (Marilyn Monroe) presented the covetous award to the anxious crowd.
