The RPYC Royal
Adventurers spent a delightful day
exploring "their own back yard" on
Monday, January 28. Carpooling to
J.N. "Ding" Darling National
Wildlife Refuge, the group enjoyed
tailgate coffee and pastries before
boarding the tour bus to explore the
refuge. The beautiful day and low
tide made terrific viewing of many
kinds of birds, both native and
migratory, as they partook of their
lunch. Then it was on to our own
lunch at Doc Ford's Restaurant,
named for the fictional SW Florida
character made famous in local
author Randy Wayne White's adventure
tales. The Bailey-Matthews Shell
Museum was next on the itinerary.
The docent tours were excellent,
and we all came away a bit
more knowledgeable about the
mollusks that we take for granted on
our beaches and in local waters, as
well as around the world. It was a
terrific day for all, thanks to the
arrangements made by Adventure
Leader Elaine Tynus Slaughter.
