The event: First of four
planned Hard Hat Receptions
The Purpose: Allow members
into the construction area to
see first hand the progress to
date and hear about the next
steps of the renovation.
Overview: How do you define
success? We define it as a turn
out of over 100 members on a
stormy Saturday night in August
at the beginning of the Labor
Day weekend! That's what
occurred at the Club on Saturday
August 30th. As members arrived
in the WIP (work in process)
lobby, they were greeted by
their hosts and presented with
bright yellow construction hats.
Just as they were encouraged to
do, most member showed up in
construction gear and work
clothes (which to Laurene Baum
meant jeans and 8 inch spike
heels!). After receiving their
hats, complimentary drink
tickets and drawing ticket for a
chance to swing the sledge
hammer, they were escorted in
small groups by highly trained
members of the Finance Committee
who are helping with the
marketing of this project to
Club members. These committee
members were easily identified
by their white construction hats
and large smiles. The guided
tour included a look "behind the
curtain" where, for insurance
and safety reasons, members are
not usually allowed to go.
Seeing the progress of the last
few weeks was both exciting and
impressive to all attendees. We
could clearly see where the new
restrooms would be, the exciting
new ballroom, the downstairs
bar, the elegant
Commodores Meeting Room as well
as the totally redone lobby
entrance with a clear view to
the marina from the moment you
pass through the front doors.
With a little imagination you
could hear the low whistles of
appreciation that our families
and guests will have on seeing
the completed product. While
enjoying drinks (did we mention
'complimentary'?) and staff
passed
Hors
d'oeuvres,
the members listened to brief
remarks by the Commodore, Terri
Natale (head of the Long Range
Planning Committee), and Ron
Friedman (one of the managers of
the Royal Palm Yacht Club LLC
that is chartered with raising
funds for this project). The
master of ceremony duties were
more then ably handled by Carl
Natale. The theme that Carl
established in his opening
remarks was resonated by each of
the 3 speakers; "look with pride
at what's happening in your
club; thanks to everyone who is
involved in making this happen;
and 'We Need Your Help" to
complete this phase and the next
phase of this renovation." How
can you help? Be open to looking
at investing in the LLC and
watch for other opportunities
over the coming months to
contribute to the finishing
touches that will bring this
project to life. This first
event was wrapped up with a
drawing to swing the sledge
hammer at the last remaining
wall standing in the former
space. While there were only 5
"winners" drawn, everyone who
wanted to take a swing got their
chance with the hammers after
the winners finished. We all
adjourned upstairs for a
fabulous Italian Buffet, music,
dancing and 2 for 1 drink
specials. If you missed this
event, 3 more will be coming,
beginning in early October and
then at approximately 30 day
intervals. Attend them all; see
what's happening and feel the
pride and excitement first hand!
